IELTS Overview
- The International English Language Testing System, or IELTS, is a test of English language proficiency for non-native English language speakers.
- It is jointly owned by the British Council; IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge English Language Assessment and has become one of the most trusted forms of English language assessment globally.
- IELTS is designed to assess English language skills across a wide range of levels. Results are reported as band scores on a scale from 1 (the lowest) to 9 (the highest).
What are the two types of IELTS test?
- Academic IELTS is for international students who would like to study at undergraduate or postgraduate levels at an English-speaking higher education institute, and for those seeking professional registration
- General IELTS focuses on English survival skills and social and workplace language, and is aimed at those who are hoping to move to an English-speaking country, such as the United Kingdom, or wish to train or study at below degree level
